CFCRA Research Summit
The CFCRA Research Summit was held in November 2016 in Gatineau, QC. The purpose of the CFCRA Research Summit was to assess industry’s research needs and priorities for the field crops for which CFCRA has responsibility for through the Canadian Field Crop Genetics Improvement Cluster under GF2 (oat, barley, soybean and corn). The CFCRA Research Summit brought together industry representatives, as well as members of the relevant scientific research community in Canada in order to determine to what extent Canada has the research capacity to address research needs, and what research approaches could be taken to meet them with the best outcomes. As a core part of the research strategy of CFCRA going forward, we wanted to assess how to best set meaningful, measurable targets for research projects in this sector and measure performance against those targets, taking into account the risks inherent in scientific research as well as the need for return on investment.
